In 1922, a young British Royal Air Force lieutenant, Frank W. Michell, disembarked in Peru with the intention of exploring the mysterious Andes. In his quest, he discovered invaluable secrets, but one in particular captured his heart: the herds of majestic alpacas that roamed the mountains, and the skilled weavers who spun their fiber with unparalleled elegance.
His deep love for Peru led him to commit his life to Alpaca and the imposing textile tradition of local artisans. In 1931, he founded Michell & Cía., a company dedicated to the classification, commercialization, and export of Alpaca fiber, and in 1947, he established the first combing and spinning plant in the country, laying the foundations for the global Alpaca industry, an influence that continues to this day.
Furthermore, Frank W. Michell became the first textile entrepreneur to challenge foreign spinning mills, empowering Peru to deliver manufactures of the highest quality. Thus began the journey of a pioneer who ignited the Alpaca industry and shared the most exquisite textiles with the world, imbued with unparalleled ancestral wisdom.
In 1987, his departure marked a pivotal moment in Peru's textile history, yet his legacy lives on, inspiring every step in this exciting journey. A hundred years later, the passion for Alpaca fiber is more alive than ever!
